About

My name is Monia Stratman and I am the owner and director of Learning Tank Tutoring Services. I am very familiar with the struggles and the challenges that students are facing today and I am well equipped to handle all of their tutoring needs. I am a certified teacher with over 15 years of experience. I graduated from MSU, with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After graduation I secured a position in a pharmaceutical lab testing various drugs and products. I felt so unfulfilled and dissatisfied that I started volunteering at my local church tutoring children after school. That is where I discovered that I had an innate fondness for teaching and working with children. I eventually abandoned my lab work for teaching. My first teaching position was at YCS Ernest May Academy. During my stay there I serviced students with ADD/ADHD, Asperger, Intellectual/Cognitive Disabilities, and other Disorders. Although the work was challenging I found it very rewarding and fulfilling. Following YCS I worked as a second grade teacher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, for a period of 2 years, during which time I decided to pursue a teaching degree. I eventually received a master’s degree in education at MSU and for the next ten years I worked as a full time school teacher for the Newark Public School System. Although I loved teaching and loved my students, there were some aspects of my job that I didn’t necessarily agree with or enjoy. So, three years ago after much agonizing and with a heavy heart, I decided to leave NPS and started Learning Tank Tutoring Services.
