3. Where can I meet my tutor?

Our private tutors will come to your home or place of mutual convenience including a library, school or cafe. We require that at the time and place of tutoring, the child is accompanied by a parent or guardian that is over the age of 18 and stays for the entire tutoring session.


4. How is Learning Tank Tutoring different from a learning center?

At Learning Tank, our tutors come directly to you.
Our dedicated and qualified tutors will design a program for your child that is based on their specific needs. We also provide tutoring via on-line using the latest in technology such as an online whiteboard, live video via Skype, live chatting, digital tablets. and pen.

If you simply need someone to help with homework, we can do that too.


5. Are there any assessment tests my child must take before being tutored by Learning Tank ?

We  do a brief evaluation of the  student to help us develop a program for the student.  We also have more thorough assessments available to help us figure out your child's learning strengths and learning needs. We also provide  an academic assessment that helps our tutors determine students' levels.  These assessments are available for a fee. These test is optional and is required only if the student is performing below grade level. In which case, it would be needed in order for our tutors to better plan for the students.


6. Does Learning Tank supply any learning materials for the tutoring sessions? 

We highly recommend that your child brings home their school books or any other materials they are working on in their class that relates to the subject(s) we are tutoring. In some cases, our tutor will provide materials if it complements what your child is learning.  Parents are responsible for the purchase of any books that are needed by the tutor.


7. What are your tutors' qualifications?

Our tutors are teachers with Masters degrees in teaching, full-time credential teachers, substitute

teachers, retired teachers or honors college students with at least two years of teaching and/or one-on-one tutoring experience. We check all references, obtain background checks and personally interview every tutor. For our special needs students, we make sure that our teachers are certified special needs teachers.


8 Are there a minimum number of sessions for which I have to commit and how long is each session?

We strongly suggest a minimum of 8 tutoring sessions in order to really see progress. The minimum amount of time for each tutoring session is 1 hour. 


9. Do your tutors work with learning disabled or special needs children?

Yes, some of our tutors are experienced, certified Special Needs teachers who are able to work in conjunction with your child’s I.E.P or 504 Plan.


10. I home-school my child. Can you help me?

Yes. If the student is being home-schooled, we will provide a credentialed teacher or a certified tutor, depending on which type of home-school program he/she is receiving. We can help with one subject or make arrangements for multiple subjects 


11. I have more than one child. Can you tutor all of them at the same time?

Most of our tutoring is facilitated through one-on-one sessions in order to assure the students' progress. However, we do provide group tutoring for homework help. All students in the group must be in the same class. During the in-home consultation, we can discuss the most cost-effective way for all of the students to be tutored individually.


12. How long do I have to wait to get a tutor assigned to my child?

After we meet with you, our Director will contact one of our tutors within 48 hours. We will call you to tell you about the tutor. The tutor will then call you for an introduction, get directions to your home and establish a schedule that works for you.


13. What geographical areas do you service?

We have tutors available throughout Essex, Union and Morris counties of New Jersey and are rapidly expanding. If your city or town is not listed and you live in the general area, please contact us anyway, we will do our best to help you find a tutor.


14. Do you accept major credit cards?

Yes. You can give us your credit card number at the consultation and we can set up automatic, monthly or bi-weekly payments. If you prefer to pay by check, no problem. You always have the option to change your preferred method of payment... or just call or e-mail us and we’ll make the appropriate switch.


15. How do I get started?
